Rent-to-own homes in Mbombela (Nelspruit)
Looking to rent to own in Nelspruit? Lease to Buy SA lets you lease a Lowveld home today and buy it later at a price written into your agreement on day one, through a bank or through 30-year finance from Nine Stones Capital.
The Lowveld market at a glance
Mbombela, still called Nelspruit by most locals, is Mpumalanga's capital and the commercial heart of the Lowveld. Provincial government, the hospitals, the citrus and subtropical fruit industry, and tourism on the road to the Kruger National Park all employ people here, and the N4 Maputo Corridor keeps freight and business moving.
Homes here are still within reach. Property24 puts the city's average sale at about R1.2 million, and roughly 41% of listings sit below R1.21 million, the level at which transfer duty starts. But house prices across the province rose about 7% in 2025, according to BetterBond, and rents in Mpumalanga barely moved. For a tenant who can pay, that's an argument for fixing a purchase price sooner rather than later.

Questions about Mbombela (Nelspruit)
Is it Nelspruit or Mbombela?
Both. The city's official name changed to Mbombela in 2009, but many people still say Nelspruit. We cover the whole city and nearby White River.
Can I rent to own a house in White River?
Yes, if it's a house, townhouse or apartment in town. We don't offer farms, smallholdings or RDP homes.
Do I need a big deposit to rent to own in the Lowveld?
No. On a two-year lease the option fee is 3% of the purchase price, so R45 000 on a R1.5 million home, plus a refundable deposit of one month's rent.
Day-to-day life in the Lowveld
Summers here are hot and wet and winters mild, which suits gardens, pools and outdoor family life. Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport sits just outside town, and the Kruger Park, Sabie and the Panorama Route are weekend drives rather than holidays.
Distances are short by city standards, so many people live in one suburb and work across town without a long commute. Water and electricity supply can vary by area, so before you choose a home we'll tell you what we know about that street.
